10 Jul 9 Ways to Support a Family in Crisis
- Provide a meal. It doesn’t have to be home cooked! And you can even have something delivered if that works
better for you.
- Provide “everyday” support. Mow the lawn. Pick up groceries. Buy school clothes/supplies. Clean the house (or pay for someone to clean).
- Give some type of membership – zoo, science center, pool, etc.
- Help prepare for new placements. Put together “welcome” bags/boxes. Provide a stuffed animal or blanket and pajamas.
- Ask what they need. They may be hesitant to ask you for help. So ask them and then follow through.
- Listen when they need to talk.
- Be available. Put your “yes” on the table and be ready to serve when and where you are needed.
- Celebrate the victories! Families in crisis may have different wins than your family. Share in their joy and celebrate with them.
- Pray. This isn’t last on the list because it is least important. Just the opposite. The most important way to support a family in crisis is to pray for them. Pray about the little things and the big things.
