20 Nov NAM Part 3: How to Get Involved
November 1-30th 2024
Theme – “Honoring Youth: Strengthening Pathways for Lasting Bonds”
There are many ways you can advocate and get involved in bringing awareness and support to adoption. Taking a stand is the first step. Whether you have been adopted or became an adoptive family, associated with the childcare system, or even a member of the community looking to help, here are plenty of resources available to get involved.
As the Adoption Network provides a few ways you can get involved and spread awareness:
- Make donations to organizations designed to provide and advocate for adoptive families.
- Become a social connection for friends and family who are going through the adoption process.
- Become a mentor for children and teens as they grow through foster care or adoption.
- Share information on social media.
- Start donation and volunteer services for your community to serve and aid those in the adoption process.
- Attend events on adoption, foster care, mental health, trauma, and child welfare.
- Learn and inform others about the effects of trauma for children who have experienced abuse and neglect. There are training services, conferences, articles, and videos available to educate those interested in learning more.
- Collaborate with likeminded community services to spread awareness.
- Learn more about National Adoption Month and the adoption process and spread what you know to your community and those around the world!
Visit the Adoption Network website to find more ways to get active during National Adoption Month.
A large portion of adoptees are involved in the foster care system and many teens age out of the system before finding permanent homes. It is important to stand up and start advocating now to find these children loving families and a place to call home. There are endless opportunities to strengthen the pathways for lasting bonds for these adoptive families and children.
All it takes is getting informed, getting involved, and bringing awareness through a unified nation to start positive, long-lasting change. It’s never too late to get started.
This is part 3 of a 4-part series focusing on National Adoption Month. Each week in November we are posting a new article sharing more. Make sure to check out the next part of our series: “Testimonials and Resources,” coming next week!
