16 Jan National Mentoring Day – January 17, 2024
Did you know?
According to the Who Mentored You? study, 1.8 million youth have grown up with virtually no adult support.
Students who regularly meet with their mentors are 52% less likely to skip a day of school and 46% less likely to start using illegal drugs (Public/Private Ventures Study of Big Brothers Big Sisters).
Youth with a mentor are:
- 92% more likely to volunteer regularly in their communities
- 75% more likely to hold positions of leadership in clubs or sports teams
From adults who were mentored as youth:
- 74% say their mentor contributed significantly to their success later in life
- 69% of young adults say that having this relationship has been key in helping them with issues related to education
The value and impact of mentors is incredible. It reaches far beyond the one on one relationship. When you spend time mentoring a youth who needs someone, you make an ongoing difference not only in their lives, but also in the lives of those they will touch as well. You have the opportunity to shape how they see themselves, who and what they value, what they believe they are capable of, and so much more. The rewards of being a mentor are priceless!
